Fraunhofer - Institute for Systems and Innovation Research

Organized in seven Competence Centers with a total of 22 Business Units, around 160 employees work on behalf of clients from home and abroad. Working in teams, they analyze economic and technical developments and indicate interdependencies in the activities of industry, state and society.

Primarily based on this contract research
and within the framework of a network for innovations, ISI invites relevant actors and experts to discuss trends and to learn from each other, thereby supporting decision-makers in industry, science and politics in setting the points for future strategic decisions. The latest methods such as foresight and scenario techniques, roadmapping and modelling processes and procedures from empirical social science research play an outstanding role in ISI's research.

The institute's range of research fields covers the areas of competence Emerging Technologies, Industry and Service Innovations, Energy Policy and Energy Systems, Sustainability and Infrastructure Systems, Policy and Regions, Regulation and Innovation, Innovation and Technology Management, as well as Foresight. Since 1972, Fraunhofer ISI has been influential in shaping the German and European innovation landscape and handles approx. 280 research projects annually.
